Premier League: United reject a second Chelsea offer for Rooney, Soldado to Tottenham

The Premier League start is around the corner and many clubs will now have a squad they feel are fit for the challenge. However, most clubs have the entire August to strengthen their squad as the Transfer Window is open until August 31st.

One of the big signings that has been completed today is the the final confirmation of Roberto Soldado’s move from Valencia to Tottenham. The move sees Tottenham pay a reported fee of around £25 million, which beats the clubs record transfer fee. It is the second time in 4 weeks that Tottenham have surpassed their record transfer fee after the signing of Paulinho for £17m beat the previous record of £16m paid for Luke Modric.  Soldado scored 30 goals in 46 games in the La Liga last season for his home town club.

Undoubtedly one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer has been whether Wayne Rooney will leave Manchester United. The England international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford despite manager David Moyes stating that he is not for sale. Manchester United have this morning confirmed that they have rejected a second bid from Chelsea for the striker believe to have been around the £30m region plus add ons. With only a month to go Jose Mourinho will need to step up his chase of the striker should he want to bring him to Stamford bridge before the end of the transfer window.

A further deal that looks close to completion is Loic Remy’s loan move from QPR to Newcastle United. Harry Redknapp had said earlier in the week that Newcastle would have to pay at least £2m to take the winger on loan for the season. Remy will add to Newcastle’s fire power having scored 6 goals in 14 appearances for QPR. Another player who is close to leaving Loftus Road is Adel Taarabt. Redknapp has said that he will not stand in the Morocco internationals way should he want to leave the club. It is believed Taarabt is scheduled to have a medical at Fulham. However, he has also been linked with Stoke City.
