Queens Park Rangers 2013/14

Having been relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2012/13 season, QPR will be looking for a fresh start as they compete in the 2013/14 Sky Bet Championship. The London based club had a poor season last year, finishing in last position in the top tier of English football, but will be looking to bounce straight back at the first time of asking.

The club are currently managed by former Tottenham and West Ham manager, Harry Redknapp. Redknapp took over from Mark Hughes in 2012 and was able to lead QPR to a victory over European Champions Chelsea, as well as earning a hard fought point against former employers Spurs. Despite some impressive performances,Redknapp was still unable too aid QPR in their fight against relegation. For the 2013/14 season, Redknapp has added former England manager, Steve McLaren onto his coaching staff in temporary role.

In terms of new additions to the squad, one major signing QPR have completed is the addition of Charlie Austin from Burnley. Austin scored 25 goals in a season that saw Burnley finish in 11th position. Austins 25 goals saw him end the season as 3rd top goal scorer in the division behind Glenn Murray and Jordan Rhodes. Redknapp has also added to his defence having sold Chris Samba for £12m. In attempt to combat the loss of Samba, QPR have brought in Richard Dunne and Danny Simpson.

The last match of the 2011/12 season against Manchester City was the probably the highlight of the last season for QPR. In a great season finale, QPR went into the overtime with a 2:1 lead after Man City turned the game in the last seconds to become the Premier League champion.  QPR finished 17th and just remained in the Premier League. However, Manager Mark Hughes has added quality players for the next season already. New additions include Robert Green (goalkeeper), Fabio, Park Ji-Sung and Jose Bosingwa.

History

QPR was founded in 1886 and had the most successful years in 1966/67, when they won the League Cup. The lowest point in the club’s history was in 2000/01, when manager Gerry Francis resigned and the club got relegated into the Division 1 – first time that QPR played third tier football.  However, QPR came back and after 34 years got promoted in the Premier League in 2010/11. Since then, the club plays at Loftus Road which holds 19,148 fans.
