This fixture will be the end of tough few weeks at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea as they have hosted Manchester United twice, Shakhtar Donetsk and now Liverpool. Whereas in the same space of time Liverpool made the short trip down the road to play Everton and the not so short trip to Russia to play Anzhi Makhachkala just a few days before their visit to London. Over recent years Liverpool have had the upper hand on Chelsea at both Anfield and Stamford Bridge, beating them five times out of six since the 2010/11 season; although the one time that Chelsea beat Liverpool was last May in the FA Cup final.

Chelsea duo Juan Mata and David Luiz may be doubts after they both suffered injuries in their Capital One Cup victory over Manchester United where both players played 120 minutes. Positive news from the camp that Ashley Cole has recovered from an ankle knock while Fernando Torres and Branislav Ivanovic are back from their one match suspension. Along with John Terry who has completed his four-match ban for racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.
Barring injury, and not being rested, Gerrard will make his 602nd appearance for the reds which while make him only the 10th player to make over 600 appearances for the Merseysiders. Elsewhere recent injury absentees Glen Johnson and Pepe Reina (both hamstring) are hopeful of returning to the fold which leaves only long-term absentees Lucas Leiva, Martin Kelly and Fabio Borini unavailable for selection.
