Chelsea vs Paris Saint-Germain – Champions League Tickets 2013/14

22.03.2014 – Chelsea have been drawn against big spending Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter finals of the Champions League, in what will be a tough encounter for Jose Mourinho and his players. The London based side will travel to Paris for the first leg on the 2nd of April with the return leg at Stamford Bridge just under a week later, on the following Tuesday the 8th April.

This is a tie that pits two huge spending clubs against each other as Chelsea are owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who has reportedly pumped billions into the club since his reign started back in 2003, and overseen numerous trophies as a result. Whilst the French side were taken over by the Qatar Investments group in 2011, who have also lavished the club with huge outlays on new players to shoot them to the French League title last year, and make them contenders for the Champions League this season.

Paris Staint-Germain

Chelsea will be wary of the Parisians as they have a vast array of hugely talented players, with the genius that is Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the way for the French outfit. Uruguayan hit man Edinson Cavani, French midfielder Blaise Matuidi and the Brazilian defensive duo of Alex and Thiago Silva amongst many others are available to coach Laurent Blanc, to ensure they will be confident of knocking Chelsea out. The Parisians meanwhile were possibly more impressive in their passage through as they were only defeated once in the group stages against Benfica in Lisbon, and dismantled Bayer Leverkusen by a 6-1 margin to setup the tie against Chelsea.

Chelsea FC

The Londoners meanwhile have numerous weapons in their squad which could hurt the Parisians such as Belgium’s Eden Hazard, Brazilian midfielders Oscar and Willian, along with club stalwarts Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Captain John Terry, to be more than confident they too can eliminate Paris Saint-Germain and perhaps go all the way in the competition.

Chelsea have reached this stage by gaining twelve points from their group matches with only two defeats out of their six games coming to Swiss side Basel, they then dispatched former striker Didier Drogba and his current team Galatasaray 3-1 on aggregate in what was an impressive show of strength from Jose Mourinho’s side, as the Turkish outfit did not ever look like stopping the Londoners.

Chelsea vs Galatasaray – Round of last 32

22.12.2013. UEFA Europa League holders Chelsea will face Turkish side Galatasaray in the Champions League 1st knockout round with the ties to be played at the Turk Telecom Arena in Istanbul and Stamford Bridge in London.

The two sides last met at the same stage of the tournament in the 2007-2008 UEFA Champions League which saw Chelsea record a 3-0 aggregate win over their Turkish opponents. Goals from Michael Ballack, Frank Lampard and Salomon Kalou secured the Blues passage into the Quarter-Final of the tournament Chelsea would go on to reach the final of.

Chelsea

Chelsea’s passage through the group stage was altogether more straight forward than their upcoming opponents’ with Jose Mourinho’s team picking up four wins out of six. Home and away defeats to Basel did make progression more difficult for Chelsea however the London outfit still managed to finish top of their group. Perhaps Chelsea’s greatest strength is the depth of their squad, whilst their first XI may be some way behind the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Chelsea’s squad contains plenty of top quality players. Chelsea have strikers with European experience in Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o, an array of talented midfielders such as Eden Hazard, Oscar, Juan Mata and Willian along with a solid defensive unit including goalkeeper Petr Cech and club legend John Terry.

Galatasaray

Galatasaray qualified for the last 16 of this season’s UEFA Champions League by finishing 2nd in group B behind Real Madrid in controversial circumstances. With Italian giants Juventus only needing a draw in Istanbul to qualify for the next stage of the competition the final game of the group stage was postponed due to bad weather. The fixture then resumed the following day in extremely poor conditions and Galatasaray secured a memorable 1-0 win thanks to Wesley Sneijder’s late goal. The second leg of this tie will see Chelsea legend Didier Drogba return to Stamford Bridge and receive a brilliant reception following his Champions League Final heroics two years ago.

Champions League Group stage: Group E

Chelsea is motivated to go far this season in the Champions League especially after last year’s early exit. Last year, Chelsea finished third in Group E behind Juventus Turin and Shakhtar Donetsk. However, Mourinho is back at Stamford Bridge and he added big striking power to his squad. Samuel Eto’o (Anzhi Makhachkala), André Schürrle (Bayer Leverkusen) and Willian (Shakhtar Donetsk). The Chelsea team is stronger than ever before and will clearly be the favourite to advance to the next stage. Get your Chelsea tickets now!

Chelsea FC vs Schalke 04

Schalke 04 was one of the surprise teams last season, when they won Group B ahead of Arsenal FC and Montpellier HSC. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar poses the biggest threat in manager Jens Keller’s team. The Dutch international scored 16 goals last season and one of the main reasons why Schalke made it so far in the Champions League. Schalke is also very strong at home at the Veltins-Arena. Keller also added players to the squad such as Felipe Santana (Borussia Dortmund), Dennis Aogo (Hamburger SV) and Christian Clemens (1. FC Cologne). Chelsea versus Schalke tickets are available now.

Chelsea FC vs FC Basel

The team of Murat Yakin won the Swiss Raiffeisen Super League last year and qualified directly for the Champions League. The Swiss team is not to be underestimated. Last season, FC Basel lost in the Champions League qualifying round against CFR Cluj, but reached the Europa League semi-final where they were beaten by Chelsea. However, Marco Streller is their top scorer and scored 21 goals last season. Other big signings this season were Behrang Safari (RSC Anderlecht), Matías Delgado (al-Jazira Club) and Ivan Ivanov (Partizan).

Chelsea FC vs Steaua Bucharest

Another team, Chelsea FC face last year in the Europa League. Chelsea beat Steaua Bucharest in the round of the last 16 with 3:2 on aggregate. However, Bucharest is an uncomfortable team to play especially at the Arena Națională in Romania. Raul Rusescu is the player to watch. He alone scored 30 goals last season in all competitions followed by Adi Rocha with 16 goals.

Champions League / Europa League – 2012/13

Europa League – Final

08.09.2012. The 2012/13 Europa League final will culminate in a battle between Benfica and Chelsea at the Amsterdam Arena on May 15th. For Chelsea, this is the final chance to save the season!

Chelsea FC

The Blues made it into the final of the competition after overcoming the challenge of FC Basel. Having won the first leg 2-1, the reigning Champions League winners went on to confirm their final spot with a 3-1 home victory. Having been eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage, Chelsea found themselves put straight into the knockout stage of the Europe League. Having overcome some tough challenges from Sparta Prague, Steaua București and Ruban Kazan, Chelsea found themselves facing Tottenham’s quarter final conquerors Basel FC. A convincing 5-2 aggregate victory see’s Chelsea into their 2nd European cup final in as many years. In order for Chelsea to win the competition they will need their top scorer in this year’s Europa League Fernando Torres to add to his already 5 goals. The Spanish forward has struggled since his big money move from Liverpool, but could play a huge part in the club winning the final. Another key player for Chelsea throughout the competition has been the ever present Frank Lampard. The Chelsea legend is ranked second in the Europa League’s assists chart as well as scoring 13 goals in domestic competition. The Europa League is Chelsea’s final chance of winning silverware this season in what has been a turbulent campaign for the London club.

Benfica

Benfica reached the final of this year’s competition with a 3-2 aggregate win over Fenerbahçe. The Portuguese club also moved into the Europa League after finishing third in group C of the Champions League. On their route to the final, Benfica have beat Bayer Leverkusen, Bordeaux and Newcastle United before being drawn against Turkish side, Fenerbahçe. Benfica are on course to win their domestic league as well as looking towards the Europe League final. Chelsea will need to be very wary of Óscar Cardozo. The Paraguayan is joint third top scorer in this year’s Europa League with 6 goals, as well as this he has contributed 16 goals in Benfica’s league campaign. Another key Benfica player is Lima, he has scored 17 league goals this years and could be hugely influential should he play in the final.

Europa League – Quarter-Final

Rubin Kazan will make a lengthy trip from Russia to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 4th April 2013 in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.

Chelsea

Last year’s Champions League winners Chelsea have been a far cry away from their cup winning heroics against Bayern Munich and made a poor showing in this season’s Champions League. They entered the Europa League after finishing third in a group containing Italian champions Juventus, Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk and Danish champions FC Nordsjaelland. They edged past Sparta Prague with a 2-1 aggregate win in the Round of 32 and then, after losing away from home, they beat Steaua Bucharest 3-2 on aggregate. Chelsea are currently third in the Premier League, one point ahead of Tottenham and four points behind Manchester City, but performances have been inconsistent as of late. It is known that Chelsea’s squad contains many world class players from all over the globe and the midfield trio of Belgian Eden Hazard, Spaniard Juan Mata and Brazilian Oscar is what makes the team tick and they are definitely the players to watch. All three players possess fantastic vision, creativity and flair and can change a game in an instant.

Rubin Kazan

Rubin Kazan qualified for the knockout rounds after topping Group H, which consisted of Inter Milan, Partizan Belgrade and Neftchi Baku. In the Round of 32, they disposed of last year’s Europa League champions Atletico Madrid with a 2-1 aggregate win. They needed extra time in the Round of 16 against Levante but they eventually came out winners with an aggregate score of 2-0. Rubin Kazan are currently sixth in the Russian Premier League, which is a very competitive league. However, they have failed to win any of their last three games and will want to start picking up the wins ahead of this important fixture. The Russian sides’ top scorer in this competition is Venezuelan striker Jose Salomon Rondon, who has helped them a great deal in their European campaign. Other players of note include right-back and Captain Roman Sharonov and striker Vladamir Dyadun.

Europa League – Round of last 32

FC Chelsea was paired with Czech football club Sparta Prague in the round of 32 after the disappointing Champions League exit.

Chelsea

The Champions League exist surprised everyone and Di Matteo was sacked as a major consequence. The new interim manager Benitez took on a tough task in order to bring the Blues back on title course. In the Champions League, Chelsea finished 3rd in Group E behind Juventus Turin and Shakhtar Donetsk. Donetsk and Chelsea finished both with 10 points, but Shakhtar advanced because of the head-to-head away goals. However, after weeks of struggle, Chelsea managed to win the last 4 games of 2012. Torres and Mata are on form, both scored 7 goals so far this season and also Lampard started to show his scoring abilities again.

Sparta Prague

The two teams met in the group stage of the Champions League in 2003/04, where the Blues won 1-0 in Prague with a William Gallas goal and then drawing 0-0 at home. Also, Peter Cech is returning to his former club, so it will be a special game for him. Sparta reached the last 32 after finishing second in Group I behind Lyon and ahead of Athletic Bilbao and Hapoel Kiryat Shmona.

Chelsea can potentially face Ajax or Steaua Bucharest in the round of the last 16 in March. The away match against Sparta will take place on 14 February with the second leg at Stamford Bridge on 21 February.

Champions League – Group E

Last year’s surprise winner Chelsea is 6th favourites, at 14/1 to retain the trophy this year. They have spent big in this summer’s transfer market bringing in players such as Eden Hazard and this has prevailed in the league so far with them achieving 9 points out of 9. However, Chelsea was taught a lesson when they lost against Atletico Madrid in the Super Cup this year. Di Matteo certainly has his work cut out if he is to replicate last year’s success.

FC Nordsjaelland

FC Nords-who? They are the side who sensationally won the Danish Superliga last season and they have certainly been rewarded with this draw. They are definitely the underdogs of Group E but nevertheless they will be ecstatic at the thought of these big football teams coming to Denmark.

Juventus Turin

Juventus won the Serie A title last year in convincing fashion, not losing a game in the entire campaign. They have Andrea Pirlo in their squad who proved to be inspirational for Italy in the Euro’s in the summer and they will be hoping that Pirlo, as well as the whole squad can topple this group.

Shakhtar Donetsk

Shakthtar will be boosted by the fact they managed to keep hold of star man Willian, despite keen interest and several bids from Tottenham Hotspur. The Ukranian champions’ best finish in this competition is the group stages and they have a mountain to climb if they are to change that.
