30.10.2013 Manchester United and Chelsea FC reached the last eight of the Capital One Cup after beating Norwich and Arsenal respectively last night.
Manchester United 4:0 Norwich City
ManUnited showed a convincing game at home against Norwich especially striker Javier Hernandez showed off his skills after scoring twice. Hernandez opened the scoring in the 20th minute after Januzaj was fouled inside the box and referee pointed at the spot. ManUnited came back much stronger in the second half and Hernandez extended the lead in 54th. A volley by Phil Jones and a goal by Fabio secured the 4:0 ManUnited victory, but especially Hernandez and Januzaj pushing for more playing time.
Arsenal 0:2 Chelsea
Wenger rested some of the key players such as Ozil and Giroud. Arteta missed the clash against Chelsea because of his red card against Crystal Palace. Mathieu Flamini was also missing after injuring his groin last weekend. Cesar Azpilicueta gave Chelsea the lead in the 25th minute after on a break from an Arsenal corner and poor Arsenal defending. Arsenal came close after a 25 yard shot by Aaron Ramsey. However, Chelsea dominated the game with the majority of possession and scoring changes. Nicklas Bendtner, who started for Arsenal, failed to hold the ball up front. Mata made it two in the second half after scoring his first goal of the season. Jose Mourinho and his teams are now unbeaten in 9 matches.
Newcastle will face Manchester City and Tottenham will host Hull in the Capital One clashes on Wednesday, October 30th.
