Spurs with vital 2-1 win against Arsenal!

It is one of the most anticipated north London derbies – Spurs vs Arsenal. Tottenham secured 3 vital points against Arsenal in the battle for an Champions League position and move third in the league.

Wenger faced a difficult match against the Spurs especially after the FA Cup defeat against Blackburn Rovers (0:1) and the Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium (1:3). Everything is on the line for Arsenal and a Champions League spot for next season is crucial.

Arsenal started the game with there usual starting eleven. However, Podolski was replaced by Arteta and started on the bench. Spurs started with Adebayor on top and the dangerous Bale and Lennon on the wings. Arsenal started well and was more active from the beginning. The first chances came through Giroud and Ramsey, but wasn’t able to play past Tottenham’s Vertonghen and Dawson in the centre defence. Tottenham made it better and scored the lead through Bale in the 37th minute. It was the 20th goal for Bale and the 9th goal in the 7th game. Lennon scored again against the rival just seconds later (39th). Aaron Lennon with a copy of the first goal and the 2:0 lead for the Spurs. Arsenal was intimidated in front of the 39,000 Tottenham fans, but came back stronger after the half. Per Mertesacker headed the 2:1 in the 51st minute and gave Arsenal some hope. Arsenal almost equalized when Ramsey angled an effort wide and Walcott curled a 22-yard free-kick the wrong side of the post. However, Tottenham took the result over the full time and secured an important victory in the north London derby.

It was Tottenham’s 12th unbeaten Premier League match and the third win against Arsenal out of the last 5 games. The Spurs moved up to third in the league only 2 points behind Manchester City and 17 points behind Manchester United. City is playing Aston Villa on Monday night. Andre Villas-Boas was delighted about the victory and said: “There were a lot of great individual performances. The midfield worked very hard and we did our tasks properly. The players were inspired because they wanted to achieve the objective which was to get this win, which is great for everyone.

Wenger and Arsenal face difficult weeks. Arsenal moved 5th in the table, out of the Champions League spots and are 5 points behind Chelsea. The next game will be against Bayern Munich and Wenger’s team has to try to turn around a 3-1 first leg deficit.
