It is once again time for the world’s elite tennis players to come together to challenge for what many see as the most prestigious competition in the sport. As usual the same names are being talked about as potential winners of the competition.

Reigning men’s champion Roger Federer will be looking to capture his 8th Wimbledon title having beat Andy Murray in last year’s final. Despite having a poor start to the season, Federer’s form has picked up since switching to grass courts but a persistent back injury could hamper his challenge for this year’s title.

Rafael Nadal will be looking to improve on his performance in last year’s competition where he was knocked out by the then ranked 100th in the world, Lukas Rosol. The 2 time champion goes into this year’s tournament on the back of a record 8th French Open victory but like Federer, Nadal has had his season disrupted by a number of injuries.

The 2011 champion, Novak Djokovic will be looking to reclaim the title that he lost last year to Roger Federer. The current world number one came very close to beating Nadal in the French Open final but narrowly missed out. As with previous years, he will certainly be a major contender for this year’s trophy.

Olympic gold medalist and Queen’s club champion Andy Murray will be looking to improve on his runners up result at Wimbledon last year. The seeding’s for this year’s competition are such that Murray could find himself facing Nadal in the quarter finals, which may affect his chances of winning the tournament. The Scots last 3 grand slam performances have seen him finish as runner up twice and as well as winning one.

Should the ‘big four’ slip up a number of other players could take advantage. David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Juan Martin Del Potro may also be serious contenders should they perform to the best of their ability. Wimbledon Tickets available here.
