Preview: QPR v Tottenham on Saturday, January 12th 2013

The Redknapp team will host Tottenham at Loftus Road on Saturday, January 12th at 12:45pm. This will be a special game for Redknapp as he meets his former club Tottenham for the first time since joining QPR.

Despite there being 90 minutes of football to be played in this fixture, the main talking point will be about the man in the QPR hot seat, Harry Redknapp. Redknapp was sacked by Spurs in the summer after they failed to make the Champions League despite finishing in the top four, due to Chelsea’s Champions League victory. Harry took a break from management before taking the QPR job in late November. Since being in control, QPR have taken 9 points from 8 games including a shock win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Both of Rangers’ league wins this season have been against London rivals, Fulham and Chelsea, and they will be hoping to add another three points to their tally against Spurs. This week has seen the departures of both Keiron Dyer and Ryan Nelsen from the QPR camp; Dyer being released and Nelsen being named the new manager of Toronto FC.

Redknapp was replaced at Tottenham by Andre Villas-Boas and he has guided them to third place in the Premier League so far this season, making them London’s highest placed club going into the weekend. It is undecided whether Adebayor will be available to play as he took the choice to play for Togo at the Africa Cup of Nations. Tottenham will be hoping he can fly back and play a part in the game before flying back out to join up with his team. That remains to be Tottenham’s only worry as they will look to emulate the reverse fixture when they overcame QPR 2-1 at White Hart Lane in September.

Before QPR got promoted in 2011, these two sides hadn’t met since 1995; they have played each other 3 times over the past two seasons. Tottenham have won both games played at White Hart Lane and QPR won the other game at Loftus Road. In the 11 times that they have met in the Premier League, there has been only once occasion where they have failed to find the net.
