Premier League: QPR beats Chelsea!

Chelsea surprisingly lost at Stamford Bridge against the league-bottom Queens Park Rangers with 0-1. The goal of the night was scored by Shaun Wright-Phillips against his former club with a low shot in the 78th minute.

Chelsea has won 4 successive Premier League games, but missed Petr Cech in the starting line up after coming off with an adductor problem against Everton. Marko Marin started for Chelsea for the first time this season. QPR travelled to Stamford Bridge with only one away win in the last 23 league games. The last away clean was in November 27th 2011! The Blues were lucky in the 4th minute when Marko Marin clattered into QPR midfielder Stephane Mbia with a wild lunge. QPR started very defensive and Redknapp’s tactic paid off. Chelsea’s first real chance was just before half-time when Cesar had to make his first save against Oscar. Chelsea created more chances in the second half through Moses, Ivanovic and Torres but failed to score. Shaun Wright-Phillips scored the 1:0 for QPR in the 78th minute from outside the penalty area. A Lampard goal was also ruled off side.

Chelsea remains fourth in the Premier League behind United, City and Tottenham and with one game in hand. The Benitez team will travel to Stoke on January 12th. QPR has renewed hopes for survival after the important 3 points and is now 5 points away from safety. QPR will play Tottenham on January 14th.
