England: Lampard celebrates a century!

Congratulations to Frank Lampard, who became just the eighth player to win 100 caps for England when he took part in the 0-0 draw against Ukraine which leaves the Three Lions sitting top of their World Cup qualifying group.

The Blues No 8 was one of several Chelsea players in action during Tuesday’s World Cup qualifiers and team-mates and pundits alike were lining up to sing his praises for such a tremendous achievement.

Ashley Cole, who reached the milestone himself earlier this year, described his club and country colleague as “one of the best midfielders England has had and the world has ever seen”, while former Blues winger Pat Nevin believes there are comparisons to be made between Frank and tennis superstar Rafa Nadal.

Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, urged Lamps to add at least two more caps to his collection – which would make him the first player to have made 100 appearances during their time at Chelsea. His first cap was won against Belgium in 1999 and he was replaced in the 76th minute of that game by Blues legend Dennis Wise!

Elsewhere, in African World Cup qualifying, Samuel Eto’o helped Cameroon edge a step closer and John Mikel Obi’s Nigeria are also well placed to progress after topping their group.

Belgium, for whom Kevin De Bruyne has been a key player, also moved to the brink of qualification at the weekend when they defeated Scotland in an action-packed evening, while there was also plenty to cheer about for some of our young internationals.
