Chelsea’s busy winter continues over the next week, with the second leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final against Swansea following a Premier League encounter with Arsenal.
As ever, the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League is hotly contested this year. But with the Blues currently sitting in third and Arsenal eight points behind in sixth, stretching that gap further with another win on Sunday at 1.30pm would send a strong message to the Gunners, not to mention the possibility of closing in on Manchester United and Manchester City at the top.
Chelsea will then travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea at 7.45pm on Wednesday. The ball is in Chelsea’s court after the 2-0 loss in the first leg of the semi-final, but even with away goals only coming into play after extra time, an early strike for the Blues would put a trip to Wembley and potential silverware right back in our sights.
A two-goal win of any kind for Chelsea would force extra-time, while that same winning margin but with three or more goals for the Blues would be enough at the end of those additional 30 minutes. A win by three or more goals would book Chelsea’s place at Wembley without the need for added time.
Chelsea were denied back-to-back Premier League wins as a 4-0 hammering of Stoke City was followed up by a 2-2 draw last night against Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
