Ryan Giggs signs one-year deal with United!

Ryan Giggs signed another one year contract with Manchester United today and will play his 23rd season at United!

The 39 year old is still a major influence on and off the pitch. He still performs for United in the Premier League and in the Champions League. This season, he played in 14 Premier League games and scored twice. He is also instrumental for the Champions League match against Real Madrid.

Giggs made his United debut on March 2nd 1991 and has scored 168 goals in 931 matches. He is the player with the most assists in the Premier League (271) and one of the true Manchester United legends. He ranks among Bobby Charlton, Eric Cantona and Roy Keane.

In his career, Giggs won 12 Premier League title, four FA Cups, three League Cups and two Champions League titles. In 1992 and 1993, Giggs was the first player to win 2 consecutive PFA Young Player of the Year awards. In January 2011, Giggs was named Manchester United’s greatest ever player and he received the Golden Foot Award in 2011.

The 39 year old said: “I am feeling good, enjoying my football more than ever and, most importantly, I feel I am making a contribution to the team.” Alex Ferguson is delighted to have Giggs still in his squad and says: ““What can I say about Ryan that hasn’t already been said? He is a marvellous player and an exceptional human being. Ryan is an example to us all, the way in which he has, and continues to, look after himself.

Teddy Sheringham played until he was 42 and ended his career at Colchester. Alessandro Costacurta is another one. He was the oldest Champions League player in 2006 and finished his career when he was 40 years and 211 days. It is most likely that Giggs will stay at United even after his career and start a role within the club.

The 39-year-old winger’s will remain with Manchester United until June 2014 and complete his 23rd season.
