Preview: Chelsea vs Wigan on Saturday, February 9th

The Blues had a rare midweek break from club duties due to the international fixtures, but will be back wearing the Chelsea shirt at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to take on Wigan Athletic.

The Premier League match kicks off at 3pm, with both teams eager to earn all three points to help alleviate some pressure in their battles at opposite ends of the table.

Chelsea are embroiled in what looks set to be a five-way fight for a spot in the top four and qualification for next season’s Champions League. The Blues are currently occupying third place, seven points behind Manchester City, and will be looking to add a second consecutive home win to the 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the last match in SW6, following a run of four away games in a row.

Despite losing just once in their last seven fixtures, Wigan have dropped into the relegation zone after back-to-back draws with Stoke and Southampton, but have impressed on their travels, not having lost away from home since Boxing Day.

This fixture will bring back fond memories for many Blues, thanks to our 8-0 win over Wigan in 2010 that secured the Premier League title en route to the club’s first-ever domestic Double. Chelsea haven’t lost to the Latics home or away since that day and have won all but one of the meetings between the two at Stamford Bridge since 1984.
