Manchester United is Premier League Champion!

Manchester United won their 20th Premier League title last night after a 3:0 victory against Aston Villa. United was led by Robin van Persie’s first-half hat-trick.

Manchester United knew that a victory was enough to secure the title after Manchester City lost to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend. United had an amazing start with Van Persie scoring in the 1st minute after an assist by Giggs. A flying start for United. United was impressive in the opening minutes and created more chances through Van Persie and Rafael who hit the post. Van Persie struck again after 13 minutes with a beautiful volley past Villa keeper Brad Guzan. 20 minutes later, Giggs set up Van Persie and the Dutchman fired in the back of the net for his third (33rd minute). Van Persie is now top scorer in the Premier League with 24 goals, one ahead of Luis Suarez.

Aston Villa just focused on damage control as they are still fighting for survival in the Premier League. Paul Lambert’s side is now 17th with 3 points behind Newcastle and 3 points ahead of Wigan and the last games will be crucial to stay in the Premier League.

Manchester United won their 20th Premier League title in style and can finish with a record breaking 96 points if they win their remaining games.

Sir Alex said after the game: “The players’ focus was fantastic this season. They didn’t get themselves annoyed by what happened last season. A lot of teams – most teams in the country – would have melted. But not this bunch. They went on and did what Manchester United expects of them and raised the bar. You could go on and on and on about losing a title, and we’ve had to do that in my time. I think our consistency for the last 20 years has been unbelievable. It’s been a marvellous performance. We’ve got 84 points with four games left – fantastic.”

Robin van Persie was the man of the match. The Dutch striker joined Manchester United at the beginning of the season for £24 million from Arsenal.
