London derby ends in 2:2 draw and the battle for the Champions League spots continues

The Champions League battle continues after Chelsea and Tottenham clash ends in a 2:2 draw. Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham will continue to fight for the Champions League spots in the last 2 weeks.

Both teams faced increased pressure ahead of the game since Champions League football is vital for the next season. Benitez started with Terry, Lampard and Ba on the bench and with Torres, Hazard and Mata up front. Andre Villas-Boas started with Adebayor up front.

Chelsea clearly had the better start and had the first small chance after only 6 minutes when Mata’s shot went inches over the bar. Oscar did it better just minutes later when he finished a Mata corner and headed past Spurs keeper Lloris. The deserved lead for Chelsea who were more active and dangerous in the opening minutes. In the 15th minute, it was Mata again who came close. Nothing was seen from the Spurs and the Blues clearly dominated the match especially with Hazard, Mata and Oscar. However, Adebayor showed his class in the 26th minute, when he ran a cross the entire half and curled a ball into the top right corner from 30 yards – no chance for Cech and what a goal for Adebayor! Chelsea kept attacking and it paid off just before the half-time when Ramires tapped in a great Torres pass into space and scored the 2:1 for Chelsea.

Chelsea continued with there strong performance at the beginning of the second half and came to more chances through Oscar, Hazard and Ramires. Spurs coach Villas-Boas had to react and brought on Clint Dempsey for Holtby in the 67th minute. Tottenham pressured now and equalized in the 80th minute after a great combination between Adebayor and Sigurdsson. Spurs dominated the game now and pushed for the winner. Bale with another shot from 20 yards just minutes later. As always, Bale stepped up for the last free-kick in the 92nd minute. However, this time he hit the ball straight in Cech’s arms.

Chelsea remains 3rd in the Premier League and will travel to Aston Villa on Saturday, May 11th. Get your Aston Villa tickets now and watch Chelsea at Villa or secure your Chelsea tickets for the last home game against Everton on May 19th.
