With the Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix 2013 just a few weeks away all the headlining news from the racing world is concerning the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel.
Vettel who is currently on course to retaining the world championship is well out a head again having already picked up 3 wins this year maintaining a huge 36 point lead at top spot ahead of second place Fernando Alonso.
This week the world champion signed a contract extension with Red Bull in a deal which would keep the German racing for the company until 2015 – much to their delight. However, there is slight confusion over and doubt over the future of Vettel’s team partner Mark Webber. It is no public secret that there is some conflict between the two drivers and has been for some time, and with Webbers contract coming to an end this year his future remains untold. Whilst some still speculate that the Australian will resign with Red Bull others feel that Webber’s new contract extension could actually be a push factor forcing Webber away to another team as they believe he feels much under the spotlight of Vettel at Red Bull.
In other news Mercedes have publicly given their full backing to fellow British star Lewis Hamilton after he claimed that he needed to regain the confidence of his team. However the racing team responded positively showing their confidence and backed their man to deliver.
Finally despite mentioning earlier Vettel’s dominant lead – Red Bull themselves have said that all is not lost for other teams and that the title fight is still wide open. In response to their recent win over rivals Ferrari, team boss Christian Horner claimed “I don’t think you can write anybody off at this point in the Championship.”
