Bayern vs Arsenal – Is Wenger condemned for resting key players?

FC Bayern Munich will face FC Arsenal in the second leg of the Champions League today. Wenger and his team face a tough match after losing 1:3 at the Emirates Stadium.

FC Bayern Munich is on a mission and wants to the Champions League trophy more than anyone else after losing the Champions League final against Chelsea FC at the Allianz Arena last year. Wenger remains confident and states: “It is difficult we know that, but it is not impossible.”

However, actions speak louder then words and Wenger seems to focus on the qualification for the Champions League next year. The last trophy was won in 2005 and Arsene Wenger is under huge pressure at his club. His team is currently 5th in the Premier League, outside of a Champions League spot and lost in the FA Cup against Championship side Blackburn. Wenger made 7 changes to his squad. Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, Jack Wilshere, Lukas Podolski and Bacary Sanga didn’t even travel to Munich. According to the DailyMail, Wenger will also rest Walcott and Cazorla.

Bayern, on the other side, is in magnificent shape this season leading the Bundesliga by 20 point ahead of 2nd placed Borussia Dortmund and is on the way to win three trophies this season. Manager Jupp Heynckes, however, will miss Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jerome Boateng and Franck Ribery because of an ankle injury. Munich have not conceded three goals at home since losing to Inter Milan in the Champions League two years ago and only conceded 10 goals in 25 matches.

The winner will go into the pot for Friday, when UEFA will draw the quarter-final match ups.
