23.09.2013 Ozil finally brought back the edge to Arsenal and it looks like the Gunners can take advantage of the inconsistent form of United, Chelsea and City. City, however, cruised past city rival ManUnited in a 4:1 victory. Sunderland sacked Paolo Di Canio last night after their poor start in the new season.
Arsenal 3:1 Stoke
It was the home debut of Mesut Ozil and the German inspired a strong Gunners performance. Ramsey scored the lead after only 5 minutes after Ozil tested Begovic with a free kick and Ramsey converted the reflection. The goals of Mertesacker (36th minute) and Sagna (72nd minute) both came after Ozil set pieces. A strong performance by the Gunners, however, it remains the question if Arsenal and Ozil can beat one of the stronger teams in the Premier League such as Chelsea FC or Tottenham.
Manchester City 4:1 Manchester United
It was Blues heaven yesterday when City won the Manchester derby with 4:1. It was David Moyes’ first derby as Manchester United manager at the Etihad Stadium. United also had to face Manchester City without Robin van Persie who suffered of a groin strain. However, Aguero volleyed the lead in the 16th minute after a Kolarov cross. Toure extended the lead just before half-time (45th). City played much better then United whose attack was led by Wayne Rooney. City scored the third right after the halt-time and Aguero (47th) was once more the beneficiary. Nasri (50th) extended only three minutes later to make it four. Wayne Rooney scored a beautiful free-kick, but it wasn’t more than a consolidation goal.
West Brom 3:0 Sunderland
Sunderland lost against West Brom with 3:0, but the club decided to sack Paolo Di Canio after only 6 months at the Black Cats. Sunderland secured only 1 point out of the first five games and was on the bottom of the table. Coach Kevin Ball will take charge and prepare the club for the Capital One Cup third-round match against Peterborough United on Tuesday.
