The 4th May 2013, will see Wladimir Klitschko making his 14th defence of his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles against his former sparring partner and cancer survivor in Mannheim, Germany. Klitschko recently pushed aside criticism suggesting his recent opponents weren’t quite on the same level which he replied it doesn’t matter how well known they are.
Wladimir Klitschko
Klitschko who is currently the longest reigning IBF, WBO & IBO Heavyweight Champion in history and also holds the record for the most title defenses for those organizations. Overall Wladimir is the 5th longest reigning Heavyweight Champion of all time with the 3rd most consecutive title defenses that at the moment stands at 13 times. Klitschko who is nicknamed “Dr. Steelhammer” most recently fought Poland’s Mariusz Wach in Hamburg that saw the Ukrainian record a victory by a unanimous point’s decision. The judges’ on the night scored Wladimir 120-107, 120-107 and 119-109 that saw Klitschko’s domination in his 13th title defence.
Francesco Pianeta
Pianeta, who is originally from Italy but resides in Germany, is currently undefeated in 29 professional fights, with one draw. Francesco Pianeta goes into the fight with a confident mood stating, “Many see me as an outsider but I will knock Klitschko out and turn the world of boxing on its head,”. Pianeta doesn’t currently hold any titles but hopes to change that fact by taking away the titles from Wladimir Klitschko. Pianeta who is also known as the “Italian Ace”, most recent recorded victory was won by TKO after 2:31 in the 1st round
If the fight saw Klitschko come out victorious over the 28-year-old Pianeta, would probably see Klitschko fight Alexander Povetkin in the autumn, although the unbeaten Russian has avoided fighting Klitschko in the past.
