Six Nations: England 38-18 Scotland

England with a perfect start at Six Nations beating Scotland with 38-18 in front of 81,000 at Twickenham to retain the Calcutta Cup.

England started well and Owen Farrell scored an early lead for England. England had great runs from Ben Morgan and Tom Wood in the following minutes, but Scotland scored the lead. Hogg with a great run past Brown and Cole after a clearance kick before he passed to debutant Sean Maitland who dove over the line – 3-5 for Scotland. Laidlaw was unable to convert. Farrell scored a 3 pointer in the 13th and the 17th minute to bring the lead back to England – 9-5 England. Laidlaw reduced to 9-8, before Ashton secured another try for England to extend the England lead to 16-8. The game was open and both teams entered halt-time with 19-11. However, England took control in the second half. Twelvetrees and Parling both extended the England lead to 31-11 with tries in their England debut. Hogg  reduced the England lead in the 71st minute to 31-18, but Scotland wasn’t able to keep up with the strong England offence and Care with the last try of the game to secure the first Six Nations victory.

England beat Scotland with 38-18 and will now travel to Dublin to face Ireland. Scotland have now gone 30 years without a win at Twickenham. Scotland will face Italy on February 9th.
