Raheem Sterling signs long term contract with Liverpool

Young teenage sensation Raheem Sterling has finally put pen to paper and signed a “long term” contract with Liverpool FC.

Sterling signed the contact on Friday afternoon and the deal comes just weeks after the star turned 18. Being such a young age, Raheem, is regarded as one of Britain’s biggest upcoming talents and is highly rated as one of England’s best prospects, having already been handed a full first team international cap against Sweden in November of this year.

So where did it all go right for Sterling and Liverpool?

He was signed by (then manager) Rafael Benitez in January 2010 for a reported £600k, however, some sources say that the transfer could rise as high as £5 million, subject to first team appearances. Sterling then mainly featured for the Liverpool reserves and youth team before catching the attention of many after making the headlines in a FA Youth Cup tie against Southend United, which was played at Anfield. The game finished 9-0 with man of the match Sterling bagging no fewer than 5 goals himself. He then made his first competitive professional debut after coming on as a substitute in Match this year featuring in a 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic, handed to him by Kenny Dalglish. Since making his debut and the departure of Dalglish, the teenage sensation has become a first team regular since the summer takeover of current boss Brendan Rodgers.

Sterling has made 25 appearances already this season scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Liverpool over Reading and statistics show that he has created the third most chances for Liverpool this season, trailing only to skipper Steven Gerrard and top goal scorer Luis Suarez. Its facts like these that emphasise the teens importance to the club who told the official clubs website “it’s every 18 year olds dream. I’m just really grateful to be at such a big club like this.”
