I.B.F. and W.B.A. World super middleweight Champion Carl Froch will defend his titles against fellow British boxer George Groves later this year, in an eagerly anticipated fight at a yet unknown venue. This will be the second high profile battle between two British fighters this year, along with the David Haye and Tyson Fury fight and both will be fascinating.
Carl Froch is the current I.B.F. And W.B.A. Super Middleweight Champion after gaining the W.B.A. Belt with his victory over Mikkel Kessler in May this year after a fantastic battle. That win for the ‘Cobra’ avenged his previous loss to Kessler back in 2010 and earned Carl Froch the honour of becoming a four time World Champion. The Nottingham born fighter previously won his I.B.F. Title when defeating the previously unbeaten Canadian Lucian Bute a year earlier, despite being an underdog in that fight, the ‘Cobra’ was utterly ruthless in stopping Bute thus taking the I.B.F. Title.
George Groves is the current WBA Inter-Continental title holder after a fifth round stoppage of Noe Gonzalez Alcoba back in May this year, that victory elevated the unbeaten George Groves to become mandatory challenger to Carl Froch’s Titles, and so the fight will take place later this year. Nicknamed the ‘Saint’, George Groves has fought a total of nineteen times winning them all, with fifteen of those wins coming from knockout so Groves has a very good record.
The venue for this titanic clash has not yet been confirmed, but it could be held in numerous fantastic stadiums such as London’s O2 Arena or maybe Wembley, which would give the challenger George Groves the home advantage as he is from the Capital. On the other side, the fight could be held at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham thus giving the ‘Cobra’ the home crowd, that was also the scene of Carl Froch’s victory of Lucian Bute last year.
