NBA Europe: Detroit Pistons vs New York Knicks in London

Detroit Pistons vs New York Knicks in London on January 17th

The National Basketball Association has recently announced that they will be returning to London with its third regular-season game in Europe. The game will take place on January 17th 2013 and will involve the three-time NBA champions Detroit Pistons and the two-time NBA champions New York Knicks. The venue is the O2, London and this game will make it its seventh game it has hosted since 2007, including four preseason games. Back in March 2011 the O2 hosted the NBA’s first ever regular season games in Europe with the Toronto Raptors played the New Jersey Nets in back to back games, which both sold out.

With London being the epicentre of global sports this summer, the Olympics proved to be a tremendous showcase for basketball. The game in January will be the NBA’s third regular season game in London and it will only prove to aid the game’s growth and development in the UK and throughout Europe.

Two of the Knicks players will be in familiar surroundings when they travel over, Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler as they won Olympic gold medals during the summer. On their team they also have six-time NBA All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire, and veterans Marcus Camby and Jason Kidd. On the other hand the Detroit Pistons feature a young and exciting roster featuring centre Greg Monroe, NBA All-Rookie first team selection Brandon Knight, NBA All-Rookie second team selection Rodney Stuckey and centre Andre Drummond. The Pistons have never played in Europe and so come January 2013 it will be their first whereas the Knick have played preseason games in Milan, Italy and Paris back in 2010. There is proving to be a growing trend in recent years for major American sporting fixtures to take place in London.

Tickets will be on-sale on October 31st.

No shows booked at the moment.
