Dortmund convince against Shakhtar Donetsk

Borussia Dortmund advanced to the Champions League quarter final after a convincing and dominant 3:0 performance against Shakhtar Donetsk. Santana and Gotze with vital 2:0 lead in the first half. Blaszczykowski scored the final third goal.

Jurgen Klopp  made 3 changes from the Bundesliga match against Hannover. Piszczek, Bender and Gotze started from the beginning and replaced Großkreutz, Kehl and Schieber. Hummels was still ill and was agianst replaced by Santana in center defence.

Both teams started with the same strategy – they pressured early and wanted to take advantage of mistakes. Dortmund started better and create early chances through Lewandowski and Gotze(12th & 16th minute). Felipe Santana will the deserved lead in the 37th minute after he scored a Gotze corner. Gotze extended the lead just 6 minutess later after Lewandowski cross – 2:0 Dortmund. Lewandowski almost scored the tird before the halfime but he could get past keeper Pyatov.

Dontsk was much better at the beginning of the second half and BVB keeper Weidenfeller had to make crucial saves against Fernandinho. Dortmund scored the third just on time, Gundogan with a 20 yard shot which rebounded off Pyatov and Blaszczykowski with the rebound – 3:0 Borussia Dortmund!  Donetsk gave up and Dortmund created more chances through Gotze (64th), Großkreutz (74th) and Reus (80th minute).

Dortmund advanced to the Champions League quarter final for the first time in 15 years and faces a tough Revier-Derby on Saturday against Schalke 04. The draw for the quarter-finals of the Champions League takes place on March 15.
