The points were shared at the San Siro on Sunday night as the Milan derby finished 1-1, whilst PSG carried on in their bid to win the title, remaining at the top of the Ligue 1 table with a 2-0 win against rivals Marseille.
AC Milan 1:1 Inter Milan
AC Milan struck the first blow in a game where they mostly dominated when their top scorer Stephan El Shaarawy ran onto a Kevin Prince-Boateng pass in the 21st minute and put them ahead with a clever finish using the outside of the boot. Inter equalised in the 71st minute when Argentinean Ezequiel Schelotto powered a header past AC keeper Christian Abbiati. The result and a Lazio loss means that Inter move up to fourth place, just one point behind AC, with AC six points behind second-placed Napoli. It was a hotly contested game as always with six yellow cards in total. There are still a lot of games to go, but surely Champions League qualification is the important factor to look towards at the stage.
Paris St. Germain 2:0 Olympique Marseille
Over in France, Lyon had earlier beaten Lorient 3-1 to move level with Paris St. Germain at the top of the table but PSG did enough to move three points clear once again. The talking point of the game was most definitely debutant David Beckham but PSG still focused on the task at hand and got the job done. The home side grabbed the lead after eleven minutes when Lucas Moura’s shot took a huge deflection and found its way into the back of the net. PSG sealed the win in the 91st minute when Beckham, who came off the bench in the 76th minute, linked up with Jeremy Menez with a brilliant chipped pass. The Frenchman then crossed the ball into the box from the left flank for Zlatan Ibrahimovich to turn into the net and take his tally to 22 for the season, sending the home fans into raptures. If PSG carry on playing the way they are and get the right results then the title will finally be theirs.
