Big wins for Manchester City and Tottenham in the Capital One Cup

They were impressive victories for Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs in the Capital One Cup. Manchester City beat Wigan with 5:0 and Tottenham won against Aston Villa with 0:4.

Manchester City 5:0 Wigan

It was an impressive victory against Wigan Athletic especially after the fact that Pellegrini made ten changes to his squad which beat city rival Manchester United on Sunday. Only Fernandinho remained in the team. Dzeko opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before Jovetic showed all his qualities and scored twice (60th and 83rd minute). It was the first time the £22m signing scored for City. It was a dominant display by City. Yaya Toure (76th) and Jesus Navas (86th) scored late in the second half to extend the lead to 5:0. It was also a revenge for the FA Cup final in May where Manchester City lost 0:1 to the Latics.

Aston Villa 0:4 Tottenham

Tottenham showed a confident match in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup with two goals by Jermain Defoe (45th and 90th) who became Tottenham’s fifth highest scorer in club history. Paulinho doubled the Spurs lead in the 49th when he converted a Holtby corner. Chadli scored the 3rd in the 86th minute. Andre Villas-Boas said after the match: “We’ve shown a great team spirit this year. The players are all buzzing for opportunities like this so most of them really performed tonight.”

Today will be another highlight in the Capital One Cup when Manchester United faces Liverpool FC at Old Trafford.
