Wimbledon: Andy Murray reaches semi-final after beating Fernando Verdasco!

Andy Murray reached the semi-final at Wimbledon after beating Fernando Verdasco in 5 sets with 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 and 7-5.

Andy Murray continues his mission to lift the Wimbledon trophy 77 years after Fred Perry. The hopes of the British nation are in Murray’s hands as he entered the semi-final against Fernando Verdasco on Wednesday night.

Verdasco, who is 54 in the ATP World Rankings, played two strong opening sets against Murray. Murray found himself two sets down, but found his form in the third and magnificently recovered after five sets.

Murray struggled in the opening set especially with his second serve. To no one’s surprise, Murray lost the first set after a double fault. The British number one broke at 1-1 in the second set, but played a horrific sixth game. Verdasco came back, won five games in a row and took a two set lead. Murray finally started to play and serve much better and broke in the second game of the third set. Murray won the third and brought the crowd behind him after he secured the fourth one right after. The final set was a head-to-head, but Andy Murray finally broke the strong Spaniard at 5-5 and decided the match after 3:30h.

Murray said after the match: “He served unbelievably well especially when he was behind. In the first set he played some really good stuff, in the second set my level dropped and I started rushing a bit but just managed to turn it round. I made some poor choices. He served fantastically well. He’s a very, very good player he’s been at the top of the game before and he’s playing well again. I started to play more solid and really took my time when I had the chance.”

Andy Murray will face Jerzy Janowicz on Friday, July 5th. Novak Djokovic will play Juan Martin Del Potro in the other semi-final.

In the meantime, tickets for the Wimbledon Semi-Final are going through the roof. Viagogo offers tickets starting from £4,000. Wimbledon tickets are available here.
