Real Madrid 2:0 Atlético Madrid

Real Madrid was under a lot of ressure on Saturday when they faced local rival Atlético Madrid in the “El Derbi madrileño.” Today, Real is seen as the established club. However, during the Franco era fans tended more toward Atlético as they were seen as “sentimiento de rebeldía” — “a sense of rebellion” and fans are more working class. However, Real Madrid needed to win order to close the gap to FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Atlético was motivated to beat Real as the last victory was in 1999. Atlético coach Simeone started Fernandez and Mario Suarez in the holding Midfield. Radamel Falcao had the first chance of the game in the highly-charged atmosphere, but failed to convert against Casillas. Ronaldo made it better in the 16th minute when he scored a fantastic free-kick from 30 yards – Ronaldo’s first goal in 3 games. Ozil secured the final score in the 6th minute when he scored a volley from 15yards. Important 3 points for Real Madrid, however, FC Barcelona won 5:1 against Bilbao and Real is still 11 points behind Barca and 5 points behind Atlético .
