The UEFA Europa League, previously known as the UEFA Cup, is Europe’s second most prestigious competition behind the UEFA Champions League. The competition consists of 12 groups of four teams with the two teams who accumulated the most points within their group progressing to the knockout stages. They are then joined by the third placed teams from each of the eight Champions League groups. These remaining teams then play two legged ties against each other until two teams are left who contest the final in a neutral venue. The UEFA Europa League has been won most frequently by Liverpool FC, Juventus and Inter Milan who all have won the competition on three occasions. The 2012/13 Europa League was won by Chelsea FC who defeated Benfica 2-1 in the final played at the Amsterdam Arena.
