29.11.2013. The Barclay’s Premier league title race continues this weekend, and we will take a look at some of the eye-catching matches on offer this Sunday:
Tottenham vs Manchester United on Sunday, 1st December at 12pm
Spurs will look to put the memories of last Sunday’s six-goal thrashing at Manchester City behind them, as they look to take on City’s rivals and champions Manchester United. Andre Villas-Boas and the players will be desperate to get a result here as the pressure begins to mount on their shoulders. Spurs started the season brightly, but have suffered a dip in form in recent weeks, but a win on Sunday could lift them into the Champions League places. Their search for victory will be without play-maker Christan Eriksen who remains side-lined with an ankle injury.
Manchester United, in contrast, come in to the game on a high following a terrific performance in Germany midweek, as they beat Bayer Leverkusen 5-0. Few would disagree that Wednesday’s performance was the best United have played under manager David Moyes, and United fans will be hoping for more of the same on Sunday. Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic could be in action at White Hart Lane, after recovering from groin and head injuries respectively. Ryan Giggs, who turned 40 this week, is also likely to be involved.
Chelsea vs Southampton on Sunday, 1st December at 4:10pm
Chelsea FC will look to close the gap between themselves and leaders Arsenal this weekend, and should results go their way they could move within a point of the Gunners with a win against Southampton at Stamford Bridge. Following an impressive victory last Saturday beating West Ham 3-0, Chelsea were to come undone at the hands of Basel in the Champions League midweek. Despite qualifying for the knockout stages, Jose Mourinho will look to put wrongs right in this fixture.
Maurico Pochettino, and his Southampton side have impressed many this season and their position in the table of fifth is no by means flattering. The Saints have only lost twice this season and could move as high as second place with victory should results be on their side. Southampton beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in this fixture last season, and few would rule out the Saints causing an upset this year.
Manchester City vs Swansea on Sunday, 1st December at 4:10pm
It’s been a good week for the blue half of Manchester. Following a scintillating performance in the 6-0 hammering of Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, Manchester City went on to beat Czech side Viktoria Plzen 4-2 in the Champions League on Wednesday; booking a showdown with holders Bayern Munich for top spot in the group. City’s home form has been impressive this season, and they boast 100% record at home in the league in this campaign, scoring 26 goals; Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping to add to that tally with a victory this Sunday.
Swansea too will be looking for back to back domestic wins following their win at Fulham last weekend. We haven’t quite seen the same amount mouth-watering, winning displays of free flowing football from the Swans this season, but what better way to put their season on track than to get a result at the Etihad. Swansea will be without influential striker Michu, as the Spaniard remains sidelined with an ankle injury.
