Preview: Chelsea v Arsenal on Sunday, January 20th

There will be fireworks on Sunday 20th January as Chelsea entertain major rivals Arsenal at their Stamford Bridge ground in what promises to be a fascinating game that will be watched by millions worldwide.

Chelsea will need to win this game if they hope to overtake last year’s champions Manchester City who are currently in second place and have a seven point advantage over the Blues. They will also want to widen the gap between themselves and Tottenham, which stands at just one point. Chelsea have been in great form recently despite a 2-0 defeat to Swansea in the Capital One cup. They have won six out of their last eight games which include the 8-0 demolition of a lacklustre Aston Villa, a 5-1 win over Southampton in the FA cup and a 4-0 win over Stoke (even if they were helped by two Jon Walters own goals). Club legend Frank Lampard continues to put in excellent performances even though his contract will not be renewed at the end of the season and new signing Demba Ba looks like he may be able to provide the firepower that the struggling Fernando Torres hasn’t been able to do.

Rafael Benitez’s Chelsea will surely be very confident that they can take all three points from the match as Arsenal have performed very poorly as of late. They lie in sixth place which means that their title challenge is pretty much over as they trail leaders Manchester United by twenty one points and are six points behind North London rivals Tottenham in the Champions League places. Their performance was woeful in the recent 2-0 defeat to Manchester City and they posed little threat towards Joe Hart and the City net. Defender Laurent Koscielny was also sent off for hauling Edin Dzeko down inside the box. The Gunners have only won half of their last eight matches and haven’t won in three games. Arsene Wenger will need to do something to get Arsenal’s season back on track.

This is definitely a must win game for both sides so you can be sure that both teams will go for it straight from the off, meaning that it will be a very entertaining game with plenty of attacking football and all-round action – certainly not one to miss!
