England beats Scotland with 3:2. England, showed character and came back twice from behind until Rickie Lambert scored the winner in the 70th minute at Wembley.
It was only an international friendly, but at the end of the night 80,000 supporters applaud the two opponents which met for the first time in 14 years.
England started with Rooney (Manchester United) Wilshere (Arsenal) and Welbeck (Manchester United). However, Scotland started with optimism and scored the lead in the 11th minute when Morrison scored a shot from 12 yards past Hart (Manchester City). Walcott equalized for England just minutes later after he received a great pass by Cleverley, cut inside Whittaker and put the ball past Scotland goalie McGregor 1-1. Especially Scotland looked promising especially Morrison and James Forrest.
Scotland started strong in the second half and Miller scored the 2:1 lead for Scotland in the 49th minute. He received a Hutton cross, lost Cahill and scored with his left foot. England and Gerrard pushed forward and this time it was Welbeck who scored the second equalizer after a Gerrard free-kick. However, the hero of the night was Rickie Lambert. He came on for Rooney in the 67th minute and scored the winner for England with his first touch after a Baines (Everton) corner.
Lambert, a Southampton striker, said after the game: “I’ve dreamt for it to go like that for a long time and for it to have gone like that was a dream come true.” Lambert spent most of his playing career in the lower leagues and joined Southampton last season.
The next England match will be the crucial World Cup 2014 qualifiers against Moldova (September 6th) and Ukraine (September 10th) next month.
