Australian Open 2013: What are Murray’s chances?

The Australian Open 2013 will start on January 14th and last until January 27th. The top men and women players in the world will be fighting for the first Grand Slam of the year.

Novak Djokovic looks set to be the favourite for the Australian Open Grand Slam event as he looks to defend his title. He won the ATP World Tour Finals inLondonin November and will be looking to continue his 2012 success in 2013. Roger Federer is definitely one of, if not the best tennis player to ever play in the sport, and even though he is getting older, he hasn’t lost his touch just yet and will be looking to add another Grand Slam to his ever expanding record. Rafael Nadal has recently over come his knee injury, however he has a serious stomach infection which has caused him to drop out of the competition and could also see him drop out of the top 4 ranking positions. There is a looming question as to whether he can regain his level of performance he so highly rates himself on or whether he will come back and not be the same?

Andy Murray will be searching for the perfect start to 2013 by winning only his second Grand Slam in Melbourne. In 2010 and 2011, he reached the Final, only to be stopped at the final hurdle. Murray won his first Grand Slam in 2012 – the US Open and proved that he could take that extra step forward. He will have to be at the top of his game if he is to go all the way during this year’s competition. Djokovic and Federer will be his main contenders for the title this year, but with Nadal out, this is another tournament whichMurrayhas a very good chance of success.
