Aston Villa was founded in 1874 and is a founding member of the Football League (1888) and the Premier League (1992). Throughout the history of the club, a traditional town rivalry existed between Aston Vila and Birmingham City. The derby is known as the “Birmingham derby” or “Second City Derby.”

In the early stages and before the Second World War, Aston Villa was one of the most successful clubs in England. By the 1920’s, Ville already won 5 league titles and six FA Cups. However, 1936 was the first time Aston villa got relegated. The team was rebuilt after the war and Eric Houghton let the team to their seventh FA Cup in 1956/57. Aston Villa FC – Season 2013-14

Aston Villa finished in fifteenth position in the Premier League last season as they struggled through the year, but given the fact that they had several young players in the side then this is understandable. The Club will be relieved however as there were points where it looked like they would be relegated, but some good results like the 6-1 home win over Sunderland confirmed Aston Villa’s safety.

There were plenty of positives for Aston Villa and their Manager Paul Lambert however, as the young players such as Ciaran Clark, Ashley Westwood and Andreas Weimann all flourishing at times last season and will improve for the experience next year. In addition, striker Christian Benteke had an outstanding season with his twenty three goals inall competitions helped Aston Villa consolidate their Premier League status.

There has been plenty of movement at the Club already this summer, with Aston Villa signing five players including former Sevilla defender Antonio Luna, Groningen midfielder Leandro Bacuna, Denmark international defender Jores Okore and his compatriot Nicklas Helenius. Another positive is that last season’s top scorer Christian Benteke has withdrawn his previous transfer request and has signed a new contract which keeps him at Aston Villa for the foreseeable future.

Expectations will surely be a mid-table finish for Aston Villa for the forthcoming season, as that would represent improvement for Manager Paul Lambert and his young squad of talented players.

Aston Villa Season Tickets

The new Premier League season is still 2 months away and many fans consider purchasing new season tickets for their teams. In a recent analysis, was revealed that Aston Villa, West Brom and Hull will have the cheapest season tickets for the 2013/14 season.

The old season finished only three weeks ago, but die-hard fans must already consider purchasing a season ticket for their team in order to secure the biggest deals. Average ticket prices in the Premier League are known to be astonishing and usually start from around £35 for the cheap seats up to £70 or more for the better ones. Especially Arsenal is known for their astonishing high ticket prices.

A recent analysis by City A.M., shows that season tickets are the cheapest options for fans and families. The cheapest season ticket is offered at Aston Villa for £325. For 19 games, a season ticket holder therefore pays £17.10 per game and much less then for a matchday ticket. Aston Villa is followed by West Brom (£359), Cardiff City (£379), Hull City (£385) and Fulham FC (£399).

By far the most expensive season ticket, to no one’s surprise, is offered at Arsenal for £1,955 (£75.20) per game. This is an astonishing price considering the second most expensive season ticket is offered at Tottenham Hotspurs for £1,320 (£62.85) – more than £600 difference in prices. The Spurs are followed by Chelsea FC for £1,250.

Another benefit of becoming a season ticket holder is that some of the clubs have season tickets exchange programs or work with platforms such as viagogo. Viagogo, for example, is partner with West Brom, Wigan Athletic, Chelsea FC, Manchester City and various other teams and allow season ticket holders to sell their season tickets for individual matches in case a season ticket holder is unable to attend the event. The long term commitment of the season ticket is one of the reasons people stay away from it. Viagogo offers a great solution.

Aston Villa FC – Season 2012-13

Aston Villa FC  is based in Witton, Birmingham and known as Villa, Villans or Lions. To most people’s surprise, Villa is one of the most successful clubs in the history of English football.

Villa finished the 1011/12 season as 16th just 2 points outside the relegation zone. Especially the end of the season was disappointing without any wins in the last ten games. Villa only scored 37 goals throughout the season – one of the worst in the league. As a result, Aston Villa fired manager Alex McLeish and appointed Scottish ex-footballer Paul Lambert as his successor.

Big names are missing in the current squad. Only Stiliyan Petrov and goalkeeper Shay Given provide some star appeal. To avoid relegation, Aston Villa will need to further strengthen the squad for the coming season.

Rivals

The leading rivals to Aston Villa in the Premier League are their midland adversaries West Bromwich Albion, as the Baggies is currently their only derby game as Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are not in the top league for the moment. Aston Villa will be aiming to overtake the Baggies in the table this season and as such become the top team in the Midlands.

Stadium

Aston Villa play their home games at Villa Park which dates back to 1897 and is one of the most historic and famous ground in the United Kingdom. It has hosted a range of matches including games during World Cups and European Championships, whilst also staging more F.A. Cup semi-finals than any other Stadium in England. It has a capacity of 42,785 and generates a fantastic atmosphere when full.
